The place has its origin in very early times, there are traces of the ceramic phase called Capacha, dating from 1500B.C.Thearchitectural evidence on the surface corresponds to the classic horizon. Its maximum splendor was the period between 700and 900A.C.It is most likely that its decline was related to the earthquakes that struck the ceremonial center, leaving some groups settled until the time of Spaniards contact. The Campana (Bell) is only a portion of what was originally a very important prehistoric settlement, whose name was supposed Almoloya. It was a great size center of political-economic and religious control, but in the sixteenth century the Franciscans and inhabitants of the region used material from pre-Hispanic plat forms for their constructions.
